Edge Of My Plate: Lunch in the Sun on the Rooftop of the Glenmore Hotel

On the weekend Mr L and I flew to Sydney to visit his parents. The weather was fabulous and his parents spoiled us. Saturday morning after a lovely breakfast at home we walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get to the Smooth Chocolate Festival which was happening in The Rocks. (More about this later on the blog).

After having filled up on pastries, chocolate and ice cream and another stroll through the city we decided we should find somewhere for a nice lunch and a bottle of wine.

The Glenmore Hotel is an institution and it was the perfect weather for relaxing on their rooftop. After climbing the stairs through The Rocks we reached the hotel where we had to climb up another three floors to get to their magnificent rooftop. But it's so worth it.

From the rooftop you get great views of the opera house so it's a great spot to have lunch or a drink in the evening. In the late afternoon they remove some of the tables so there's more room to stand and it gets busy up there!

The turnover of tables was pretty quick so we didn't have to wait long until we were seated. We started off with a jug of sangria which had lots of fresh fruit in it (and plenty of alcohol). As we had already had a fair bit of sweet stuff to eat at the festival we decided to choose three items from the "Food to fight over"-section from the menu: The Hot Wings, Fish Cakes and Potato Wedges.

The hot wings were a full kilo of smoky, sticky, devilled chicken wings with chilli, shallots, coriander & lemon, definitely messy but very tasty food.

The fish cakes came on a bed of BBQ corn salsa & tartare sauce. The fish cakes were crunchy on the outside and had a lovely texture and flavour. I was a big fan of the salsa!

The potato wedges were served with sour cream and sweet chillli sauce. Well, they were potato wedges but I love potato wedges. Nice and crunchy and evenly cooked (nothing worse than when you have all the big ones left over at the end because they weren't cooked properly).

My verdict, I've been here before and I'll definitely come back again, it's a great place to enjoy a few glasses of wine or a lunch in the sun. The food is simple, yet delicious.
